1. enter + 比赛项目：enter 是及物动词，表示直接“参加；参与”。

2. enter  for + 比赛项目：enter 是不及物动词，for 表示“目的”，表示“报名参加；参加选拔”。

我查阅了牛津词典，上面有这样的例句：

“1000 children entered the competition.”

但新概念里是这么说的：

“Every year I enter for the garden competition.”

是不是可以认为，competition前使用enter/enter for都是正确的？

那么对于examination，championship等词，也是如此吗？它们到底有什么区别？

解答如下

(1)enter sth 参加某事

(2)enter for sth 报名参加某事

(3)enter sb for sth为某人报名参加某事

以上3种表达结构都是正确的。

(1)enter  vt.参加，报名参加（比赛或考试）(英文解释： If you enter a competition, race, or examination, you officially state that you will compete or take part in it.）

I run so well I'm planning to enter some races. 

我跑步很不错，正在考虑参加一些比赛。

I run so well I'm planning to enter some races.  

我跑步很不错，正在考虑参加一些比赛。

备注：enter 当作不及物动词，后面接介词for,表示参加，后面也可以接宾语。

He entered for many competitions, winning several gold medals. 

他参加过多次比赛，赢得了数枚金牌。

(2)enter sb for使参加;为…报名参加 (英文解释：If you enter someone for a race or competition, you officially state that they will compete or take part in it.）

His wife Marie secretly entered him for the Championship.  

他妻子玛丽偷偷地为他报名参加锦标赛。

(3)enter for 参加(报名)参加(竞赛、考试等);

I shall enter for the singing competition.  

我将报名参加歌咏比赛.

Anybody can enter for the competition, can't they?

You are encouraged to enter for the math competition.  

你可以报名参加数学比赛.

He is anxious to enter for the competition.
