A survey by Harvard's newspaper has revealed a surprising pattern of academic dishonesty among students entering the US university. The survey by The Harvard Crimson was emailed to incoming first year undergraduates; 1,600 students responded.

请教老师，enter是终结性短暂动词，所以entering不是正在进入的意思而是即将进入大学。

所以Entering the US university 如果用定语从句表示应该选择什么时态?

1) ... amomg students who are entering the US university.

2) ... among students who has entered the US university

3) ... amomg students who entered the US university.

其中，1）是正确的，are entering 表示即将进入而非正在进入？

而2）和3）has entered/entered表示“已经进入”含义不对。但是和has revealed 时态搭配却正确（不考虑文章意思“即将进入”的情况下）？

之前也遇到过类似的问题，但是没有收集起来。有希望老师帮我们把其中的深层含义理清楚。谢谢老师！

网友把现在分词和进行体混淆了。进行体由助动词be+现在分词构成，进行体表示的情景是会结束而尚未结束的情景。单独的现在分词doing形式则仅表示主动和同时的双重意义，并不暗示现在分词表示的情景还没有结束。例如：

Falling to the ground, he broke his leg. 本句中的现在分词falling表示的就是发生并结束的动作，只不过falling这个动作和break具有同时性而已，同时falling表示主动意义，即句子主语为分词动作的施事者。

因此，现在分词作非谓语成分，不能完全按照进行体去理解。网友认为enter是终结性短暂动词，由此认为entering表示的是即将的意义，这是把进行体和现在分词混淆了。

仔细读一下这个句子，网友就会发现entering the US university暗示了一个过去时间，即在a survey进行的时候进入美国大学。后面一句还明确表示The survey was emailed to incoming first year undergraduates，incoming意为刚到达的，first year undergraduates则表示这些被调查者已经是大学本科生了，只不过是刚到达的。因此entering是不能按即将进入大学来理解的。

我们知道一般体表示事件时，这个事件是在说话人关心的时间内发生并结束的事件。说话人关心的是调查这段时间，在这段时间入学的新生是调查对象。很多学生在这段时间进入大学，enter的动作发生并结束于这段时间之内，故动词用一般体。survey是过去的，故时间为过去，时态则应为一般过去时，表示多个时间在说话人关心的一个过去时间发生并结束。因此，改为定语从句则为：among the students who entered the US university. 反过来，当我们把从句结构改为非谓语动词结构时，enter为主动意义，时间上与隐含的survey具有同时性，过用现在分词作定语，得到among the students entering the US university.
