In a systematic attempt to obtain a detailed account of the qualifications and activities of the clergy he ordered several unpopular inquiries. This, and the good archbishop's impressively prominent nose, might be thought more than enough for his peers to have nicknamed him 'nosy Parker'.

... more than enough for his peers to have nicknamed him 'nosy Parker'.

The wheather is warm enough (for us) to have a swim in the river.

   1. too...to do

   2. enough to do

   3. such...as to do

   4. so... as to do

   5. ... only to do

more than可以作为习语,前置修饰形容词,相当于very, extremely.

Definition of more than : to a great degree : very : extremely

Please call me anytime. I'm more than happy to help (out) in any way I can.

—often in a clause followed by another clause that gives more information or limits the "more than" clause in some way

I am more than happy to help you, but I'd appreciate being asked politely.

You are more than welcome to stay for dinner, but we aren't having anything special.

网友的下述句子中,enough就是代词作宾补,enough本身又被more than前置修饰表示程度,被for sb to do sth不定式复合结构修饰表示结果。

This(主语), and the good archbishop's impressively prominent nose(插入语), might be thought(被动语态谓语) more than enough for his peers to have nicknamed him 'nosy Parker'.(主语补足语,中心词为代词enough)

People (主语)might think(谓语) this(宾语) enough for his peers to have nicknamed him "nosy Parker".(宾语补足语)

In a systematic attempt to obtain a detailed account of the qualifications and activities of the clergy he ordered several unpopular inquiries. This, and the good archbishop's impressively prominent nose, might be thought more than enough for his peers to have nicknamed him 'nosy Parker'.

主动结构:主语+be+thought+ more than+adj.for sb to do (主语补足语)

被动结构:主语+think sth +more than adj. for sb to do (宾语补足语)

不定式完成式to have nicknamed him nosy Parker在这一句是作结果状语成

(1)nosy  adj.

He was having to whisper in order to avoid being overheard by their nosy neighbours.

I agree that the press is often too nosy about a candidate's personal history.

When he got older I nicknamed him Little Alf.

Which newspaper was once nicknamed The Thunderer?
