新课标高中英语《必修四》Unit 3中有这样一个句子：Not that Charlie’s own life was easy! 句中的not that“并不是……；倒不是……”，是一个常见的省略句式，其完整形式是“It is not that Charlie’s own life was easy!”，that引导表语从句。在实际运用中，后面还常接“but that...”，but后的that可以省略。例如：

Not that your cell-phone is out of work, but (that) it's out of power. 你的手机并不是坏了，而是没电了。

Not that he didn’t hear you, but (that) he wouldn't answer you. 他不是没有听见，而是不想回答你。

▲ not that..., but that也常表示原因（=not because..., but because）。例如：

I didn’t accompany you to the Great Wall, not that I was unwilling but that I was busy. 我没陪你去长城，不是因为我不愿意，而是因为我很忙。
