但是感觉都不对，应该怎样表达呢，请各位老师指教!

Stage V不用定冠词，the fifth stage用定冠词。

论文描述试验过程，应该用一般过去时。

failure表示破坏似乎不准确，但也许是专业术语，就不改动了。

In Stage V，the failure went on taking place. Macrocraks propagated in an unstable manner and coalesced eventually.
