Terrafugia Inc. said Monday that its new flying car has completed its first flight,bringing the company closer to its goal of selling the flying car within the next year.

请问：这里的 closer to 是什么结构啊？查了很多地方也找不到这是什么结构，形容词+介词，并且前面没有be动词，所以这个结构显然不是做表语的，还是仅仅把这个结构当作固定搭配死背就好了？并且，形容词+介词这种结构应该称为形容词短语还是介词短语？？？请老师指教。

1. 英语中的close to 是“复合型介词”，close 是副词，to是介词，其构成为：“adverb + preposition”。常见的还有：out of, north of, ahead of, away from，等等。

2. closer to 为其“比较级形式”，意思是“离......更近”。

其用法如下：

（1）The old man sat close to the stove. （close to 介词短语，作地点状语，是S+V+A 结构）

（2）The old man put his armchair close to the stove. （close to 介词短语，作地点状语，是S+V+O+A 结构）

（3）The old man sat on the armchair close to the stove. （close to 介词短语，作定语，修饰the armchair）

（4）The armchair was close to the stove. （close to 介词短语，作表语）

3. 网友的bringing the company closer to its goal，跟（3）是一个类型。
