So even though I couldn’t see the future as clearly as before, I took the plunge in hopes that in the depths of fear and failure, I would come out feeling more alive than ever before.
尽管不能清晰地看见未来，在恐惧和失败的深渊里，我们也要保持希望，那么我们将活得更有生命力。
请问老师，标红的 that 在句中是什么成分，什么意思呢？看起来应该不是引导从句，结合译文，似乎是“所以”，“那么”的意思，那是否应该是 so that 呢？

【答】1. 句首的So 跟that，没有任何关系，因为So是在让步从句开头位置，而that在主句中。这里的So是“连接性副词”，引起另外一个句子，它是对上文意义的续接。类似的还有however （然而），too（也）等。
2. 原译文没有把took the plunge翻译出来。该词组的意思是：“冒一冒险；冒险尝试；孤注一掷；采取断然行动”。
3. in the hopes that... 在......希望中，that从句是hopes的同位语从句，说明hopes的内容。跟
took the plunge连用，说明“在带有......希冀中，采取断然行动”。
网友可能见到类似的表达，that从句都是同位语从句：
express one’s hope that... 表示希望......
in the expectation that... 带着......期望
with the expectation that... 带着......期望
hold a belief that...相信...

in the hope of (或 in hopes of)和 in the hope that (或 in hopes that)都表示“怀着 ...... 的希望”。in the hope of 可以与 in hopes of 换用； in the hope that 可以与 in hopes that 换用。例如：
I underwent an operation in hopes of (或 in the hope of) an early recovery. 我怀摘自着早日痊愈的希望接受了外科手术。
He went to America in the hope that（或 in hopes that）his health would improve. 他去了美国，期望健康状况会有所改善。
The mayor was in hopes of having a clear day for the parade. 市长希望游行时能有个好天气。
