2 《朗文当代英语词典》的一个笔误（涉及irresponsible）
前面有网友提出了 it is kind of sb to do sth 的句式分析。我无意中在查 irresponsible 时，在《朗文当代英语词典》（第4版）的 irresponsible 词条时，发现了一个笔误——下面的内容摘自《朗文当代英语词典》：
it is irresponsible (for sb) to do sth
It would be irresponsible not to turn up for work without calling. 不打电话说一声就不去上班是不负责任的。
It was highly irresponsible of him to leave the children on their own in the pool. 他把孩子们独自留在游泳池里，真是太不负责任了。
我的疑问是：前面的粗体句型中用的 for sb，但第二个例句却用的是 of him。我想这里肯定有一个地方错了！请专家核实。

It is +形容词 of sb to do sth. 形容词是评估人的。
It is+形容词 for sb to do sth. 形容词是评估不定式动作的（即形容词评估事物）
如果一个形容词既可以评估人，也可以评估事物，则可以用于以上两个句型。
irresponsible这个形容词就是既可以评估人，也可以评估事物。因此可以用于以上二个句型。不过不同的词典在对irresponsible释义时，并非都很全面。例如：
《麦克米伦词典》
done or said without thinking of the possible results of your actions or words
这个释义显然是描述事物，而不是描述人。
《牛津词典》
（of a person) not thinking enough about the effects of what they do; not showing a feeling of responsibility
这个释义显然是描述人，未涉及描述事物
《朗文词典》
doing careless things without thinking or worrying about the possible bad results
这个释义也显然是描述人的。
不过尽管以上词典释义不够全面，但其例句中的irresponsible却又描述人的，也有描述事物的。
《韦氏词典》对irresponsible作了四条释义，其中有描述人的，也有描述事物的。
b : said or done with no sense of responsibility 描述事物
c : lacking a sense of responsibility 描述人。
在COCA语料库搜索irresponsible for, 得到it be irresponsible for sb to do sth的例句57个，搜索irresponsible of, 得到it be irresonsible of sb to do sth的例句不足30条。可见irresponsible即可描述人，也可描述事物，因此不定式前可以是for sb， 也可以是of sb.
由此可以知道，《朗文当代英语词典》并没有错误，只是在释义的时候不够全面而已。
It is irresponsible (for sb) to do sth是描述事物这个意义上的例句。（for sb可是省去）
It is irresponsible of sb to do是描述人这个意义上的例句。（of sb不可省去）

这位网友很细心，我觉得《朗文当代英语词典》的标注确实不妥。
据我所知，同时也查了一下语料库，英语通常是用 it is irresponsible (of sb) to do sth，较少用介词 for，所以我觉得粗体字部分应改为：
it is irresponsible (of sb) to do sth
这一是为了与其所给的例句保持一致，同时也是为了体现语言的通常用法。
下面是我查到的几个例句：
(1) It is irresponsible of you not to prepare students for their exams. 你不帮助学生准备考试就是不负责。
(2) It was irresponsible of the school to allow this to happen in the first place. 首先是学校不负责任，才会让这种事发生。
(3) It was irresponsible of her to leave the children by themselves in the swimming pool. 她把孩子们独自留在游泳池里是不负责任的。
其实用 for 也不算错，只是不如用 of 更普通。如：
(4) It was, he said, criminally irresponsible for any party to say it would never raise personal taxation. 他说，如果任何政党声称永远不会提高个人赋税，那都是错误而且不负责任的说法。（出自柯林斯词典）
