basics（复数形式）指事物的基本要素、事物的本源。
in its basics：意为“在/从事物的本源中”。该词组跟can be understood 算不上固定搭配，只是说“爱因斯坦的相对论”从事物的本源中可以得到“理解”。in its basics 作“方式状语”，说明understand 的方式。
