标准答案：

Tom used to be shy, but this time he was bold enough to give a performance in front of a large audience.

我的句子：

Tom was very shy in the past, but this time he is very bold and can give a performance in front of a large audience.

请问老师，标准答案的to do 结果状语和我自己写的后半句为并列句的形式的译句，两者有何区别？哪个更能体现译文的原意？谢谢老师！

形容词+enough+不定式，不定式表示的是程度/结果，即形容词描述的特征/性质到了某种程度或产生了某种结果。这种程度和结果就是不定式表示的事件。即不定式的动作是发生了的具体事件。

主语+系词+形容词+and can do sth. can在此表示能力和潜在的可能性，不带to的不定式表示的事件未必实际发生。

因此，二种表达是有区别的。汉语原文明确表示上台表示实际发生了。原译文体现出了这一点，而网友的译文只是表示主语具有表演的能力或可能性，并没有明确表示实际演出的意义。因此，原翻译是准确的，网友的译文没有准确翻译出汉语的意思来。

这句话如果一定要把but 分句，再改成并列分句或复合句的话，建议网友把句子改为：

1. Tom was usually shy, but this time he was very bold and was able to give a performance in front of a large audience.

2. Tom was usually shy, but this time he was so bold that he was able to give a performance in front of a large audience.

（说明：时态仍然用过去时，不能是现在时，因为句中的this time，仍然指过去的一次动作。此外，注意区别跟原句不同的红色部分）
