Colombian military 前面是否应该有一个定冠词

我在一本教科书中看到这样一句话：

This news item is about the release of Betancourt and 14 other hostages by Colombian military.

我怀疑在 Colombian military 前应有一个定冠词，因为表示军队应该用 the military, 而且 Colombian 是形容词，不是名词，前面应该有一个限定词。不知道我的想法对不对，请老师们指教。
