若“not+状语”置于句首是为了强调，则其后的句子习惯上要倒装语序（部分倒装）。如：

Not without reason had he flown into a rage. 他大发雷霆不是没有理由的。

Not since the 1968 Olympic Games has a medals ceremony caused such a storm of booing. 自1968 年奥运会以来，没有哪次颁奖仪式引起过如此哗然的一片嘘声。

但是，若置于句首的“not+状语”不是表示强调，则其后不用倒装。如：

Not long after this, there occurred a sudden revolution. 此后不久，突然爆发了革命。

Not long after the Lugouqiao Bridge incident the Japanese came. 卢沟桥事变不久，日本人就来了。

注意，如果置于句首的not后面接的不是状语，而是主语，则自然不能用倒装。如：

Not every kind of bird earl fly. 不是每一种鸟都能飞。

Not all Americans like hamburgers. 不是所有美国人都喜欢汉堡包。
