The company around the table watched Voldemort apprehensively, each of them, by his or her expression, afraid that they might be blamed for Harry Potter’s continued existence. Voldemort, however, seemed to be speaking more to himself than to any of them, still addressing the unconscious body above him.

I have been careless, and so have been thwarted by luck and chance, those wreckers of all but the best-laid plans. But I know bet ter now. I understand those things that I did not understand before.I must be the one to kill Harry Potter, and I shall be.”

I have been careless, and so have been thwarted by luck and chance, those wreckers of all but the best-laid plans.

those wreckers of all but the best-laid plans=那些毁灭几乎完美计划的东西(即指的是前面提到的运气和机会)

those wreckers of all but the best-laid plans 为前面名词短语同位语luck and chance.

A:all but =几乎, 差不多;除了…

She all but fainted when she heard the news.

All but one of the passengers were killed in the accident.

B:wrecker n.

C:wreck vt.

wrecker of all but the best-laid plans.

D:best-laid  adj.

He wrecked the garden.

A coalition could have defeated the government and wrecked the treaty.

His life has been wrecked by the tragedy.

missed promotions, lost jobs, wrecked marriages.

those wreckers为luck and chance的同位语。 all but在这里等于almost, 几乎。all but the best-laid plans意为几乎是最完美的周密计划。
