参考答案为：cheap 或 cheaper

疑惑：后半句中，为什么不是 it costs twice as much as the one across the stree? 是省略了吗？后半句的意思是“这家店的面包价格是街对面的面包店的两倍”吗？这样的话答案不应该是costlier吗？

Bread is cheap(er) in this shop; it costs twice as much across the street.

【翻译】这家店里的面包便宜，大街对面那家要贵一倍。

网友对问题的理解有偏差。

关键是对代词 it 的理解，在这里 it 指代 bread，不是 this shop，因为cost 的主语只能是“商品”，不可能是“商店”。由于有了across the street 这个词组，前面的in that shop 被省略了。

我把句子重新写一下，你就明白了：

Bread is cheap(er) in this shop, but bread costs twice as much (in that shop) across the street.

英语的特点之一就是尽量避免重复，意思很明确的就不必再说。例如：

Tom is 1.9 meters, and John is even taller. 后半句显然是和Tom作比较，再加than比较从句就是画蛇添足。你的句子也是同一个道理。
