This is a hard question to answer. 的意义就相当于The question is hard toanswer. 又如：

He's a hard man to deal with.他是一个很难对付的人。 = The man is hard todeal with. 这个人很难对付。

This is an easy article to understand. 这是一篇很易懂的文章。 = The article is easy to understand. 这篇文章很易懂。
