2. lay 还有一种用法是表“铺开”“摊开”。如：

Lay the material flat on the table. 把布料平铺在桌上。

lay out表示“铺开”“摊开”时，与spread out大致同义：

We spread (laid) themap out on the floor. 我们在地板上展开地图。

Quantities of food were spread (laid) out on thetable. 许多食品摊放在桌子上。

Please lay (spread) out all the clothes you want totake on holiday. 请把你想带去度假的衣服摊开看看。
