书上说得没错，根据英语习惯，allow 可与状语小品词连用，但 permit 不行，也就是说英语习惯上可以说allow sb in，但不能说permit sb in。类似地有：
正：allow sb out 让某人出去
误：permit sb out
正：allow sb through 让某人通过
误：permit sb through
