关于except,except for,apart from的区别

关于except, except for, apart from 的区别网上说法不一，请老师在句子位置上和用法上讲下。感谢老师！

借此机会也说说besides。

1.besides 通常表示有所补充，意思与 with 或 plus (＋) 接近。

Besides the violin, he plays the piano and the flute. 除了拉小提琴，他还会弹钢琴和吹笛子。（他会演奏三种乐器。）

2.except 侧重于排除在外，从整体里减去。意思与 without 或 minus (－) 接近。可与but换用，但语气较强。

I like all musical instruments except the violin. 所有的器乐我都喜欢，除了小提琴。

3.except for 多用于在说明基本情况或对主要部分加以肯定，还引出相反的原因或细节，从而部分地修正前面的主要意思，含惋惜意味。

The article is good except for a few spelling mistakes. 除了有几个拼写错误外，这篇文章写得挺好的。

4.apart from 既有besides的意思也有except的意思。

Apart from the violin, he plays the piano and the flute. (= Besides the violin...) 除了拉小提琴，他还会弹钢琴和吹笛子。

I like all musical instruments apart from the violin. (= ... except the violin.)所有的器乐我都喜欢，除了小提琴。

我也补充一点。

表示除外时，如果整体和除外的人或物属于同一个类别，用except, 也可用except for；不是同一个类别，只能用except for.

I like all musical instruments except （for) the violin. 小提琴和乐器是一个类别。

The article is good except for a few spelling mistakes. 错误和文章不是一个类别。

The room is empty except for a broken chair. 房间和椅子不是一个类别。

赞同曾老师的解答，我再补充几点：

1.except 不能用在句首，句首要使用except for. 例如：Except for Mary, everyone is here.

2.except that可以引导从句，besides 和apart from则不可以。例如：I would buy the suit, except that it costs too much. 句子的意思是：若不是这套衣服太贵，我就买了。所以主句用了虚拟式。

3.except 后可以接不定式。例如：She seldom goes out except to go to church.如果except前有do,不定式一般省略to。例如：There was little I could do except wait.
