借此机会说一下whether和if的用法区别。

通常在以下两种情况下它们可以互换：

1.在“及物动词”或“be+形容词”后引导宾语从句时：

I wonder whether (if) the news will come. 我不知道他是否来。

He was not sure whether (if) he is right or wrong. 他不确定他是对还是错。

2.it用作形式主语时：

It hasn't been decided whether (if) we shall attend the meeting. 我们是否出席会议还没有决定。

▲ 以下几种情况只能用whether：

1.在表语从句中：

The question is whether the film is worth seeing. 问题是这部影片是否值得一看。

2.在同位语从句中：

I have no idea whether he will come back home today. 我不知道他今天是否回家。

3.主语从句位于句首时：

Whether they’re safe is unknown. 他们是否安全尚不清楚。

4.在介词之后(但在某些“动词+介词”的短语中，介词有时可省略)。

It all depends (on) whether they will support us. 这完全取决于他们是否支持我们。

5.后面紧接or not时：

I don’t know whether or not she is ready. 我不知道她是否准备好了。

6.当从句简化为不定式时：

He doesn’t know whether to stay or not. 他不知道是否该留下。

7.用if会引起歧义时：

Please 1et me know whether you like that watch. 请告诉我你是否喜欢那款手表。(句中的whether若改用if，那么既可以是宾语从句，也可以是条件状语从句。)

正如Even网友所言，whether引导主语从句且位于句首时，不能用if代替。如果用了形式主语it，则whether或if均可。但whether但语体较if更正式一些。

我再补充一点。whether or not引导的宾语从句不能用if代替whether。但如果or not位于从句末尾，则可以用if代替whether。例如：

I don't know whether or not he will come. 不可以用if。

I don't know whether/if he will come or not.

表示”是否“意义的if不能引导表语从句和同位语从句，只能用whether。

主语+be doubtful +if/whether宾语从句=主语+doubt if/whether宾语从句(用whether会更好）

I doubt if his deeds would match his stirring words.  

我怀疑他的行动是否会与他那激动人心的话是一致的.

The vacancy of her expression made me doubt if she was listening. 

她茫然的神情让我怀疑她是否在听.

I doubt if it will rain today.  

我不能确定今天是否会下雨.

I doubt if he can go the distance.
