如何确定复杂句中同位语的对应词（对应名词）

Intellect, according to Hofstadter, is different from native intelligence, a quality we reluctantly admire.

1. 从语法上讲，到底是指代 intelligence 还是指代 intellect？是就近指代还是不用考虑就近指代？

2. 从语义上讲，we 确实不喜欢 intelligence ，所以指代的是intelligence。

我想问的是，同位语指代有就近指代这个规则么？因为定语从句关系代词没有就近指代这个规则。

PS.下文是：Intellect is the critical, creative, and contemplative side of the mind. Intelligence seeks to grasp, manipulate, re-order, and adjust, while intellect examines, ponders, wonders, theorizes, criticizes and imagines.

同位语是名词词组的一部分。同位语也有限制性和非限制性之分。限制性同位语通常用逗号隔开。和定语一样，同位语应该尽量接近被解释的名词。因此，上句中的同位语解释的是intelligence. 语法上不允许将其视为intellect的同位语。如果它是intellect的同位语，就应该放在according to之前。如：

Intellect, a quality we reluctantly admire，according to Hofstadter, is different from native intelligence.
