any good as的理解

《朗文当代高级英语辞典第四版》matter 词条下的一个例句：

Whether or not he is any good as a manager is a matter of opinion . 他是否是个好经理，这是看法问题。

对于句中any good as，我不太理解，请专家指教，谢谢！

any在这里是个副词，用在否定或疑问句中强调一个形容词或副词的意义，等于at all. 意为“在任何程度上”“在任何方面”。如：

He wasn't any good at French.

I can't run any faster.

Is your father feeling any better?

这个句子中的as不是比较意义，而是“作为...”。作为经理，他算得上好还是算不上好是个看法问题。

第1种理解：（按照比较）

Whether he is as good a manager as any or not is a matter of opinion

Whether he is a manager as good as any or not is a matter of opinion

第2种理解：按照as介词短语(as a manager)

如果按照as作为介词理解,

就是下面结构

He is any good or not (any为程度副词，修饰good形容词）

I was never any good at maths.

我数学向来就不好。

Is he any good at gardening? We might experiment with him.

他擅长园艺吗 ?我们可以试试他.

It won't do you any good. (any为限定词，good为名词)

这样于你自己不利.

Excessive weight gain doesn't do you any good. （any为限定词，good为名词）
