1.《外研社英汉多功能词典》有如下注解:

......动词discuss后面紧接名词（短语）或wh-从句、短语，而不可接about,on等。

○We've discussed the matter.我们已讨论过这件事。

（×We've discussed about...）

但是，名词discussion可接about。

We had a discussion about our future.我们讨论我们的未来。

2.英国著名语言学家弗雷德雷克•托•伍德《英语介词习语词典》有如下解释：

discuss一般不用介词，例如：discuss a subject讨论一个题目（不是discuss about it）。然而，也可以说：They discussed about and about the subject for over an hour, and still reached no decision.他们围绕这个题目讨论来讨论去，讨论了一个多小时，仍没作出决定。但这儿的about不是concerning（关于）的意思，而是around（围绕）的意思。

在网上看到一个消息，说是2006年福建省高考英语试卷的阅读理解D篇，文章最后一句话有错误，原文如下：

When writing an essay or carrying out project work, you can often discuss with your tutor about the title and topic.

文章说：这是高中生常犯的错误，不料高考出题专家也未能“幸免”。我只知道 discuss sth. with sb. 或 discuss with sb. sth.，我没见过 discuss with sb. about sth.。about一字必须被去掉！

网上说的是正确，以上是错误，每个人都会犯错误，世界顶级权威大师也会出错误，这非常正常，没有什么大惊小怪的.

(1)discuss sth with sb（适用于STH 很短情况下使用）

 I will be discussing the situation with colleagues tomorrow.

明天我会和同事们讨论一下情况

(2)discuss with sb+sth (适用于STH 很长的情况下使用）

He is discussing with his friends what they should do next.  

他在和朋友们讨论下一步该做什么。

(3)discuss sth

The cabinet met today to discuss how to respond to the ultimatum. 

内阁今天开会商量如何应对这道最后通牒。

 It was clear that she wanted to discuss some private matter.  

很明显，她想谈些私事。

(4)discuss +wh-从句

They'll discuss how it should be done.  

他们将讨论这事应该如何做。

We discussed how we could solve the problem.

(5)have a discussion (with sb /among/of/about)
