She was a writer before she turned teacher.

She was a writer before she turned teacher.
在通常情况下，单数可数名词前是应该有冠词的，但是有少数例外，其中最典型的就是当 turn 表示“变成……”时，turn后面接的单数可数名词不用冠词（或者说用零冠词）。如：
He wished to turn butcher. 他希望成为屠夫。
She denied that she had turned traitor. 她否认自己叛变了。
He worked in a bank for thirty years before turning painter. 他在银行工作 30 年以后才改行当了画家。
但如果改用become，则要用不定冠词。如：
She denied that she had became a traitor. 她否认自己叛变了。
