much也可以表示“经常”，如：

He doesn’t get out much. 他不常外出。

We don’t go to the theatre much any more. 我们不再经常去看戏了。

I just haven’t time to go out much. 我只不过是没有时间经常外出而已。

下面我补充我的个人观点，不一定正确，如果回答不妥当或者不正确，望各位老师给予指正。

(1)often 属于频度副词，其发生的频率仅赐予always/usually 之后，强调动作发生的频率这一概念。

A:常常；经常

They often spent Christmas at Prescott Hill. 

他们经常在普雷斯科特山过圣诞节。

Early American weathervanes were most often cut from flat wooden boards.

美国早期的风向标大多截自平直的木板。

B:用于询问或说明某事发生的频率（多）常

How often do you brush your teeth?. 

你多久刷一次牙？

I don't know how often I heard the same awful jokes.

这种千篇一律的烂笑话我不知道听过多少回了。

C:（有规律地）有时，偶尔

She's going to come back every so often.

她会偶尔回来的。

Every so often he would turn and look at her.  

他会时不时回头看她一眼。

D:构成固定短语搭配：as often as not 往往；多半；通常

Yet, as often as not, they find themselves the target of persecution rather than praise...

(9)so much so that 太…以至于...

 He himself believed in freedom, so much so that he would rather die than live without it.

(10) too much for 非...力所能及

His inability to stay at one job for long had finally proved too much for her.  

他没有哪份工作能干长，这一点最终让她难以忍受。
