He is ill, so he can’t go with us.(并列句)
We arrived early, so we got good seats.(复合句)
He is ill, so he can’t go with us.
▲在“We arrived early, so we got good seats.”中,so = so that, 引导一个结果状语从句,即使省略that后,so we got good seats也是结果状语从句,不是并列句。 亚历山大在《朗文英语语法》第1.52.2节指出:“We arrived early, so (that) we got good seats. (i.e. We got good seats as a result ofarriving early) We arrived so early that wegot good seats我们到得这么早,(以致)我们找到了好座位。”所以,We arrived early, so we got good seats.
We arrived early, so we got good seats.
We arrived early, so that we got good seats中的so that we got good seats 应是结果状语从句,不宜理解为目的状语从句。
We arrived early, so (that) wegot good seats
We arrived early, so we got good seats.(并列句)
We arrived early, so that we got good seats.(复合句)
