so many people have been moving to Utah that the Mormons, who once represented 75 percent of the population, now account for only half.

老师上边这句话是考题中正确选项中的一句话，请问accounting for only half是不是accounting only half of the population的省略呢？

如果是这里可以用下边那句话代替呢？

accounting only half of it ?或者是accounting only half of that

Since 1975 so many people have been moving toUtah that the Mormons, who once represented 75 percent of the population, nowaccount for only half （of that）.

【试译】：1975以来，如此多的人源源不断地移居到犹他，以致使得曾经占总人口数75%的摩门教徒现在只占其总人口数量的一半。

我觉得如果不省略，用that比population更好，也最好不用it.

如：

The weather in Beijing is not as cool asthat in Shanghai.不说：

The weather in Beijingis not as cool as it in Shanghai.

谢谢Beachy老师，这正是我的疑问，我认为A中it错误在于指代而非替代，但是看别人的解答说是因为it的错误在于；it指代的是75percent of the population而不是population.

但是我对于可否用that，以及population可否补出来没有把握，Beachy老师的解答给我吃了一粒定心丸。
