fear并非情态动词，fear not的说法只是口语而已。

fear not 可以单独成句，用来安慰对方“不要害怕”，还可以表示说话人对某事的判断：“恐怕没有”。各举两例：

Fear not, Darlene will protect you. 别担心，达琳会保护你的。

If so, fear not; we are all that person at some point.  如果是这样，不要害怕；我们所有人有些时候都是那样子。

Is anything left at all? — I fear not.“留下什么东西了吗?” ——“恐怕没有。”

Will they be able to win the championship? —I fear not. 他们能拿到冠军吗? ——我担心拿不到。

I fear not.等于说I am afraid not.

don’t fear 也可单独使用，用来安慰对方“不要害怕”。此外，don’t fear需要接宾语才可以。各举两例：

Do not fear; I will support you. 别担心，我会支持你的。

Don't fear---I will hold your hand. 别怕，我会抓住你的手。

Troubles fear me as long as I don't fear them. 我不怕困难，困难就怕我。

Don't fear being aggressive if that only costs you a little. 当只会花你很少钱的时候，不用害怕积极主动的策略。
