last century与last year,last week等的用法问题

老师说，英语可以说 last night, last week, last month, last summer, last year 等，但英语习惯上不说 last century，而应改成 in the last century, during the last century。但我对此表示怀疑，特向专家老师求证一下，谢谢！

汉语说“上个世纪”，说成英语可以是 last century，但更通常说法是 in [during] the last century。如：

It happened late last century—in 1895, to be exact. 事情发生在上个世纪末——准确地说，在1895年。

This was well-known during the last century. 这在上个世纪是众所周知的。

The first iron ships were built in the last century. 第一批铁壳船是上个世纪建造的。
