compete是个不及物动词,它的用法在中学阶段主要考查三种。
▲表示竞争做某事,compete后接不定式(表目的)。如:
Several companies are competing to gain the contrast. 几家公司在为一项合同而互相竞争。

▲compete in 参加比赛(或竞赛),例如:
He's hoping to compete in the London marathon. 他期盼着参加伦敦马拉松比赛。
Will you compete in the swimming race? 你参加游泳比赛吗?
▲compete with / against sb.(for sth.) 为了……和……竞争(对抗),例如:
Several companies are competing for the contract. 为了得到那项合同,几家公司正在竞争。
Fifty students competed with one another for the scholarship. 50名学生相互竞争以争取到这项奖学金。
John competed for a place at the school, but didn’t get in. 约翰想在学校里占有一席之地,但并未成功。
