If it were not for…用于过去情况

1. 以下两个句式均用于表示假设，意思是“若不是”“要不是”，但所指时间不同：

if it weren’t (wasn’t) for…（用于现在情况）

if it hadn’t been for… （用于过去情况）

if it weren’t [wasn’t] for… 既可用于对现在情况作假设，也可用于对过去情况作假设：

If it weren’t for your help, I would still be homeless. 若不是你帮忙，我现在还是无家可归。

tblink000朋友您好，“if it were not for＋名词或从句，主语＋ would （could, might, should 等）＋动词原形”这种结构，意为"若非（有）……，若不是……"。主要用于表示与现在事实相反的虚拟语气，相当于“but for＋名词”或“without＋名词”。也可用于表与过去事实相反的虚拟语气。当然，如果是与过去事实相反的虚拟语气，也可以用“If it hadn’t been for …”,请看例句：

1.If it weren’t for your help, we would be in serious trouble.

若不是你帮忙，我们会遇到大麻烦。

2.You wouldn’t be anywhere if it weren’t for Ruth.

要不是露丝你不会有任何成就。

3.If it were not for his presence, I would punish you.

1. 该句没有任何问题。薄冰教授说，在表达与过去事实相反的非真实条件句中，一般用过去完成时，但虚拟式 were 也可以表示与过去事实相反。例如：

If I were not busy, I would have come. 假如不是因为忙，（那回 / 次 / 天）我就会来了。

2. 所以：Were it not for their help, we couldn't have got over the difficulties. = Had it not been for their help, we couldn't have got over the difficulties.
