Lu Jian’s Dream

Lu Jian is my game partner, and we are in the same class. He was born with a good brain. He is not only good at physics and chemistry, but he also has a good knowledge of English. He is an active learner and always keeps his attention andtakes notes wisely in class.

One day, I had a conversation with him. When I asked him the secret of his success in English, Lu Jian answered, “Well, one cannot learn English well overnight, so be patient. As for me, I usually review English grammar andread aloud the expressions and the sentences in my English textbook at home.In order to increase my ability to speak English and my speed of speaking English, I repeat them quickly many times. 【辨析】aloud, loud 与 loudly均可表示“出声”， aloud是副词不是形容词，没有比较等级，常与 read, speak, think 等动词连用，表示从不出声到出声，即把话说出来。loud 表示“大声”或“响亮”，可用作形容词和副词，强调声音响亮。loudly 用作副词，意为“大声地”“喧闹地”，有时可与 loud 互换：Don’t talk so loud/loudly. 别这么大声讲话。

2. pronunciation /prE7nQnsI5eIFn/ n. 发音；读音

【中考佳句】In Chinese, the number 5-2-0 has a similar pronunciation to “I love you”. 在中文里，数字520和“我爱你”的发音相似。（四川南充）

5. discover /dIs5kQvE/ v. 发现；发觉

【拆记】dis-（拿掉）+ cover（盖子；覆盖物）= discover

【辨析】discover和find均可表示“发现”。但是，若要表示第一次发现以前没有人知道的东西、地方等，则用discover：Columbus discovered the New World. 哥伦布发现了新大陆。

【用法】knowledge是不可数名词，但有时可与不定冠词连用，表示某方面的知识：He has a good knowledge of music. 他很懂音乐。
