ablaze

The house was ablaze in a few minutes. 房子几分钟就烧起来了。
Shattered houses were ablaze. 炸毁的房屋在熊熊燃烧。
Lightning set the building ablaze. 闪电导致那栋建筑着火了。
Within minutes
the whole house was ablaze. 几分钟内，整座房子就成了一片火海。
Cars and buses
were set ablaze during the riot. 暴乱中许多轿车和公共汽车被纵火焚烧。

【用法说明】
1. 为表语形容词，所以不能用于名词前作定语；若语义需要置于名词前作定语，可用burning：
Passengers suffocated in the burning
aircraft. 乘客在燃烧的飞机中窒息死亡。
但ablaze有时可置于所修饰的名词后作定语：
The house ablaze is next door to me. 那家着火的房子就在我隔壁。（夸克《英语语法大全》）
用作后置定语时其本质仍是表语：
The house (which is) ablaze is next door to mine.（夸克《英语语法大全》）
2. 表示强调时，可用well 修饰：
By the time
firefighters were called the house was well ablaze. 消防队员接到火警电话时，房子已是一片火海。（牛津英语搭配词典）
3. be ablaze with 为该词的一个常见搭配（参见上面的相关例句），其中的 with 表示原因。
