对人教版新目标英语八年级下册一个句子的质疑

（有关live up to 的用法）

在人民教育出版社2013年10月第1版义务教育教科书英语八年级下册有这样一个句子：

A panda can live up to 20 to 30 years.（Unit 7 Section B 1c，p.53)

我认为这个句子是错误的，因为 live up to 是一个习语，后面不能接表示数量的词语。

以下是有关live up to 用法的一些内容。

（一）摘自英国著名语言学家 Frederick T. Wood编著的《英语介词习语词典》(English Prepositional Idioms)

live up to 可表示：(i) 量......过日子。例如：

live up to one’s income 根据收入安排生活，量入为出

(ii) 过与...... 相称的生活。例如：

live up to one’s position 过与某人地位相称的生活

(iii) 使自己的生活和行为与所指的东西相符。例如：

live up to one’s reputation 不愧于自己的声望，不负盛名

(iv) 按照所提到的方式生活和为人。例如：

live up to one’s beliefs 实行某人的信念

live up to one’s professions 做的和本人的自白一致

live up to one’s standards one expects of others 达到某人期望于他人的标准

（二）摘自中国大百科全书出版社2017年1月第1版《韦氏高阶英汉双解词典》

live up to [phrasal verb] live up to (something）

1: to do what is required by (something) 做到，实现，遵守

She lived up to her promises. [= she kept her promises] 她实现了自己的诺言。

2: to be good enough for (something) 符合，不辜负，无愧于

He has found it difficult to live up to his name / reputation. [= to be as good / successful as people think he is or should be]他发现很难不负众望。

Their vacation didn’t live up to their expectations [= their vacation wasn’t as good as they expected it to be]他们的假期过得没有预期的好。

live up to

1. behave according to; fulfil (an expectation)遵从...... 行事；不辜负（某种期望）

Children will always live up to your expectations of them. 孩子们不会辜负你对他们的期望的。

2. behave in a manner worthy of (sth such as a high standard); put (one’s faith, principles, etc ) 行为够得上（某种高标准）；实践（信仰、原则等）

Every one ought to live up to what he knows to be right.只要自己认为对的，就应该在生活中去实践。

3. copy; try to be worthy of (sb whom one admires) 仿效；比得上；与...... 相当

His wife was so clever that Jack felt that he could never live up to her. 杰克的妻子太聪明了，让杰克觉得自己从来都不如她。

live up to blue china  spend up to, or more than one’s income 生活入不敷出

live up to expectations  not fall short of expectations 不负人们的期望，按照期望做到

live up to green-turtle do, and give, one’s best 尽力而为；贡献自己的专长

live up to one’s reputation   not fall short of reputation 不负盛名，名不虚传

The beast had lived up to his reputation for cleverness. 这畜生确实是聪明极了。
