1.意思与用法

(1) 负责或有责任做某事

指做某事是某人的工作或义务。如：

The children are responsible for setting the table. 孩子们负责摆桌子。

The children were responsible for cleaning their own rooms. 这群孩子负责打扫自己的房间。

The manager is responsible for making sure the shop is run properly. 经理有责任确保商店正常运作。

Parents are responsible for their own children. 父母要有责任照顾自己的孩子。

(2) 对所发生的坏事负责

指对所发生的不好的事情负有责任或承担责任（通常以人作主语）。如：

He is responsible for killing many people. 他对杀死许多人负有责任。

They are responsible for inflaming the situation. 他们应该对事态激化负责。

Police believe students are responsible for burning down the school. 警方认为烧毁学校是学生所为。

I was responsible for the damage. 我对所造成的损坏负责。

(3) 导致发生某事的原因

通常指导致发生不好的情况的原因。如：

The car is responsible for causing a lot of damage to our environment. 汽车对我们的环境造成严重破坏。

His carelessness is responsible for breaking the mirror. 打碎这面镜子是由于他粗心大意。

Scientists have discovered the gene responsible for causing this disease. 科学家已经发现了引发这种疾病的基因。

The car is responsible for causing a lot of damage to our environment. 汽车是对我们的环境造成严重破环的原因。

The factories are responsible for polluting the air for miles around. 这些工厂造成了很大范围的空气污染。

有时也用于好的方面。如：

We were both responsible for this success. 做成这件事我们俩都有功劳。

You are responsible for washing out your own lab equipment. 你们负责清洗自己的实验室设备。(2017全国卷Ⅱ听力)

Who is responsible for the operation of such vehicles is not clear. 谁来负责这些车辆的运营还不明确。(2017天津卷阅C)

2.后接动词的用法

表示负责做某事，其后通常不接不定式，而接for doing sth：

汤姆负责擦窗户。

误：Tom was responsible to clean the windows.

正：Tom was responsible for cleaning the windows.

这镜子是谁打破的?

误：Who is responsible to break the mirror?

正：Who is responsible for breaking the mirror?
