动词 doubt 后接宾语从句的用法

动词 doubt 意义为“怀疑，不知道”时，在肯定句中后接if / whether-从句，在否定句和疑问句中后接 that-从句。例如：

(1) Economists doubt whether interest rates will fall in the near future . 经济学家怀疑在不久的将来利率是否会下降。（摘自《牛津英语用法指南》第四版第436节）

(2) I doubt if she’ll come this evening . 我不能肯定今天晚上她是否会来。（同上）

(3) I don’t doubt (that) there will be more problems . 我毫不怀疑将会有更多的问题出现。（同上）

(4) I doubt whether it’s true . 我怀疑这是否是真的。（摘自赵俊英：《现代英语语法》p.1227）

(5) I doubt if that was what he wanted. 我不知道那是不是他所需要的。（同上）

(6) She never doubted for a moment that she was right. 她从不怀疑自己是正确的。（同上）

(7) Can you doubt that he will win? 你能怀疑他会获胜吗？（同上）

(8) Did she doubt that we should be happy? 她是不是不相信我们会幸福？（摘自张道真《初级英语词典》p.335）

(9) I doubt whether [if] he will keep his word. 我怀疑他是否会信守自己的诺言。（摘自外研社《英汉多功能词典》2008年7月第1版 p.616）

(10) I doubt if he will pass the examinations. 我怀疑他是否能通过考试。（摘自张道真《初级英语词典》p.335）

(11) You are late so I doubt if you will catch the bus.  你晚了，我怀疑你是否能赶上公共汽车。（同上）

动词 doubt 表示 “认为……未必” “认为……不可能”等意思时，在肯定句中通常后接 that-从句。例如：

(12) The directors doubt that new machinery is really necessary. 董事们认为未必真的需要新机器。（摘自《牛津英语用法指南》第四版第436节）

(13) I doubt that we'll arrive on time.  我认为我们不可能按时到达。（《美国传统英汉双解学习词典》）

在非正式文体和否定句中，动词 doubt 后面的从句可以不用连词。例如：

(14) I doubt we’ll have enough money for a new car . 我不确定我们有足够的钱买辆新车。（摘自《牛津英语用法指南》第四版第436节）

(15) I don’t doubt (that) there will be more problems . 我毫不怀疑将会有更多的问题出现。（同上）
