本文以《朗文当代高级英语辞典》(第6版)为蓝本,摘录、整理该辞典中收录的可以后跟v-ing形式的动词或动词短语(不包括该辞典未收录的),其中的v-ing形式主要包括作动词的宾语和介词的宾语的动名词以及作宾语补足语和状语的现在分词。
1.accuse (P18)作“to say that you believe someone is guilty of a crime or of doing something bad 控告,质控;指责”解时,可以构成“accuse somebody of doing something”。例如:
Smith accused her of lying. 史密斯指责她说谎。
They accused him of cheating 他们指责他作弊。
2. adjust (P31) 作“to gradually become familiar with a new situation (使)适应;(使)习惯 ”解时,构成“adjust to doing something”。例如:
My parents had trouble adjusting to living in an apartment.我父母不习惯住公寓。
3.admire(P32)作“to respect and like someone because they have done
something that you think is good, or to respect their qualities or skills 敬佩,钦佩;羡慕”解时,构成“admire somebody for doing something”。例如:
I don't agree with her, but I admire her for sticking to her principles.(摘自Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary在线词典)
4.admit (P33) 作“to agree unwillingly that something is true or that someone else is right 【不情愿地】承认”解时,构成“admit (to) doing something”。例如:
Dana admitted feeling hurt by what I had said.达娜承认我说的话伤了她的感情。
5.admonish (P34)作“to tell someone severely that they have done something wrong 责备;警告,告诫”解时,构成“admonish somebody for doing something”。例如:
The witness was admonished for failing to answer the question. 证人因没有回答问题而受到警告。
